We booked the spa Sunday, we arrived at the location to have the receptionist telling us the jacuzzi wasn't working. So they gave us a discount on the price, but we would have greatly appreciated an email or phone call to acknowledge that so we could have book somewhere else or reschedule. The changing room are so small that we needed to take turn with another couple to get inside the cubicle. Level of hygiene is very poor, the floor was dirty and I've seen member of staff entering and exiting the spa without acknowledging there was the need of cleaning the floor. Tiles missing and limescale all over, the place is not looked after. Location is great but that's all.

I stayed at Down Hall Estate this weekend for a belated birthday getaway. We had a package with food and spa treatments included and access to the wet spa. Rooms were nice and cosy, radiator unfortunately made a buzzing noise all night but due to us staying one night we didn’t mention this. We grabbed a drink in the bar which was a nice buzzing atmosphere and headed to the spa for 5pm. Upon arrival we were told that our treatments were at 4.15 and they have no space that evening for us at all. Understandably we were incredibly disappointed as the front of house had confirmed our treatments were at 5pm and left us in a very awkward position with the spa front of house team. After speaking with the receptionist at the hotel we were offered £100 but we opted for our treatments to take place the following day before we left for home. I want to say a massive thank you to the spa manager who made us feel incredibly welcome, despite the issue we had. It was confirmed that the bookings team had booked the wrong time for us. We made the most out of the wet spa, access to pool, sauna and steam room etc.. the lovely spa manager ( I have forgot your name I’m so sorry) brought us complimentary drinks and a lovely gift set of products. Dinner was incredible and all of the staff were friendly. The following day, we arrived for our treatments after checking out of our room, which we were also given complimentary late check out for. The massage and body polish was worth the wait. Was incredible and in the end, we had a lovely time despite the hiccups. I would like to say thank you again to the relevant teams for resolving the issues promptly and making my birthday stay lovely xx

We recently hosted a surprise birthday lunch at Down Hall Hotel in December, and it was an unforgettable experience. The event took place in the Lyndhurst Suite, which was absolutely stunning—a perfect setting for an intimate and special occasion. The elegant decor and ambiance of the room required very little additional effort to make it feel extraordinary. The menu options for such events were impressively extensive, and the online platform made managing choices simple and stress-free. Zoe from the wedding and events team was exceptional, ensuring the planning process was seamless. She was always reachable and attentive, making us feel confident and supported in the lead-up to the event. On the day, the lady who hosted our event was outstanding (I regret not catching her name). Her professionalism and warm approach ensured everything ran smoothly, adding a personal touch that we truly appreciated. The hotel itself is breathtaking, with beautiful rooms and surroundings that add to the charm. They cater wonderfully to all dietary needs and requirements, which was important for our diverse group of guests. I highly recommend Down Hall Hotel for any special occasion. The team’s dedication and the venue’s timeless elegance make for a memorable experience. Thank you to everyone who made this celebration so special—we will definitely be booking again!

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying afternoon tea at Down Hall, and it was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish. The food was exquisite—perfectly crafted finger sandwiches, warm, fluffy scones, and an array of beautifully presented pastries that were as delicious as they were indulgent. The service was exceptional, with a special mention to Jane, who went above and beyond to make our visit truly special. Her attentiveness, friendly demeanor, and genuine care added a personal touch that made the afternoon even more memorable. The location itself is stunning—nestled in picturesque surroundings with beautifully landscaped gardens that create a serene and elegant atmosphere. The entire team at Down Hall deserves praise for their professionalism and warm hospitality, ensuring that every guest feels truly valued. If you’re looking for a luxurious and unforgettable afternoon tea experience, Down Hall is the place to be. I can’t recommend it highly enough and can’t wait to return!

On the 22nd of december my date and I went for an afternoon spa break for her birthday. I was told 10 30 am start but we had a very late start to the day and atived around 12pm. The duty manager at the Eden spa Cheryl was very nice and re jifgged everything for me and sparred my blushes nicely. We had a great time in the pool area and then had an amazing massage plus a sharing cheese board after. A fantastic experience! Nothing out of this world but just what we wanted and needed. Thank you sooo much to the team on the day. The team was incredibly accommodating, making sure everything ran smoothly for us. The atmosphere was really nice, and I had a great time overall. Highly recommend it and it's coming from someone who wasn't sure about it at first before booking. :) thanks!

We went for the Christmas afternoon tea, it was ok but not worth the money in my opinion. Quite disappointed with the sandwiches, for that money I would have expected decent fillings, if you are advertising roast Turkey sandwich’s it should be just that, rather than formed Turkey meat. The cakes were nice but the Tea & Coffee were substandard. The venue is stunning, set in a beautiful location with great grounds. We didn’t spend the night so not sure of the rooms, there is a Spa too which looks nice but again, we didn’t use it. I wouldn’t go there again for the afternoon tea and probably wouldn’t recommend it either.

Lovely location and staff could not have been friendlier. Our room was tired and was in need of a refresh. The food was good at dinner and breakfast. The reason for the three star is that access to the spa is not included and that certainly isn’t made clear during the booking process online. Yes there is a sauna near the gym however with no shower or changing facilities down there I am not sure it ever gets used.

Very lovely hotel, did not try spa facilities, bidet was a little leaky and bath plug became jammed in but that may have been myself being heavy handed.

We had a lovely stay. The housekeeping dept were very kind in adding an additional topper to the bed, prior to our arrival for my wife´s bad hips, so the bed then was super soft for her, which she loved. We ate in the bar where Leah deserves a special mention for looking after us. It was my birthday and we had a really lovely time in this lovely hotel. Breakfast in the Pottery annexe was also really good with friendly and attentive staff.

My family came here for an afternoon tea to celebrate my mum's 80th. I would highly recommend Down Hall for a special occasion. There were eight of us, 2 being children, and one adult with quite specific food requests (non dairy but meat eater). Nothing was too much trouble for them and there is a specific childrens afternoon tea. Our server Jane was really helpful and attentive. I also stayed in the hotel with my mum that evening, and had dinner in The Fox bar, which was also lovely. The hotel had put a plate of macarons in our room with a Happy Birthday message. I hadn't requested it, but I happened to mention it was my mum's birthday, so it was a nice touch. The grounds our room looked on to were lovely too.

Well situated from London and a short drive from the station, I had the privilege of staying here recently. It is a very nice hotel, beautifully styled, with lovely spaces. It also has large grounds to explore. The only thing I query is the £30 admission price for the spa. On the plus side having a specific timeslot means that you may find yourself with the entire space to yourself. The spa comprises of a large whirlpool and a steam room and sauna. There is also a relaxation room with some adjustable heated beds and sun loungers outside. We didn't have any treatments, but is the spa worth £30? Personally I think not, especially as the heated beds would not heat up, the reading lamps on each bed were not plugged in, the steam room did not have enough steam, and the sauna was not hot enough. The two changing rooms are unisex and very small and cramp. If you have a shower then expect to find the entire changing room floor completely soaked, so getting changed is tricky. The spa staff are all friendly, attentive and welcoming. The bedroom was spacious, and comfortable. The bed was large, with nice quality linen, and we slept very well. All the staff were friendly, welcoming, and professional. Down Hall is a lovely property and I recommend a stay.

Hotel was bigger then expected, great area's to work or relax. Some area's smell like the fireplace, which is on colder days an extra nice sence. Nice bar for beer, wine, wishkey and even cigars. Staff love to have a nice chat with you. Spent 2 days here for work, but will book it again if I need to be in this area.

**2024 Updated Review** Sadly after getting engaged here last year we went for an anniversary lunch. The main bar staff guy was quite arrogant and we felt quite unwelcome with our dog (which had never been a problem in the many times we've been before). The lunch menu offerings were very average and after sitting with the menus for about 10 mins and no sign of the waiter even asking for a drinks order we decided to leave and go elsewhere. Disappointing. (2023) Incredible place, can't speak highly enough about it. We love staying here (we've been 3 times in the last 3 months). We have a dog and it is super important to us that she can travel with us. Of course, she is very well trained (especially well house trained) and sleeps in her soft crate when we travel. At Down Hall they welcome people travelling with their fur babies, in our room they put in a lush dog bed, water bowl and box of treats. The hotel itself is stunning! With lots of history (google it) and has gone through a beautiful renovation (think White Lotus esq), the rooms are huge and well set up with a luxurious comfy bed (for the human's travelling), a tea/coffee chest, a double sink bathroom, with a bath, shower, toilet and bidet. As we book 'with dog' they put us in the beautiful rooms that have opening doors out onto the wonderful garden area and surrounding the hall there are many kms of walks. We've eaten in both the restaurant and the bar (where the dog is allowed) and the food and wine in both are outstanding. In the morning, there is a buffet breakfast (continental and cooked) which again is excellent. I would totally recommend staying here and although I haven't visited the spa yet - its on my "to do" list for next visit.

had an amazing massage today in the spa from Charlie, I have to say the spa is nothing to write home about, just a small plunge/bubble jet pool, sauna and steam room with four mildewy loungers to sit on. probably better in the summer as there are more loungers outside but the mindfulness massage was really great, thank you Charlie. Treatment rooms are very nice

Down Hall is a venue that effortlessly combines historic charm with modern luxury. As a wedding photographer, I’m continually inspired by the grandeur of the mansion, the beauty of the gardens, and the warmth of the team. Every wedding I’ve captured here has been unique, with the venue providing the perfect canvas for couples to bring their dreams to life.

Had my afternoon tea Baby shower here, I would 1000% recommend this venue - we booked the Rookwood Suite - private room hire. It was absolutely beautiful, elegant & everything we wanted. The staff were amazing & attentive. I cannot wait to go back. I would also recommend having food at the Fox Terrace!!

I previously visited Down Hall hotel in 2021 for a twilight spa session and decided to visit again recently to try their autumn afternoon tea menu with a friend. We received a friendly welcome and the service remained attentive throughout. The sandwich selection was nice and varied, but the veggie ones were lacking on the filling quantity. However we were given sandwich refills which is always a big bonus and we were a big fan of the red onion and brie tart. The scones were wrapped up so stayed nice and warm and they were served with a generous helping of clotted cream and some Tiptree preserves. I'm not usually keen on the taste of pumpkin but the spiced pumpkin mousse was definitely my favourite sweet treat, closely followed by the maple and pecan tartlet. The macaroon was overcooked so it was quite hard and not very enjoyable. Overall we had a lovely afternoon here in beautiful surroundings and would recommend.

Very disappointing experience. I booked one night getaway stay for my partner's birthday, which I specify in the booking, but they didn’t offer anything special (which is fine, not all hotels do it, but it’s always a nice touch to have a little something. They couldn’t care less there though.) I went for the most expensive room as it was a special occasion and it was SO disappointing for this price tag (almost £400 for one night, in the middle of the week so not a week end stay). Our view was a kid's football playground and the parking. There weren't any bathrobes, sleepers or soap. The room was dirty, with ball of dirt and fur on the corners, stains on the mugs. Actually, the whole hotel felt quite dirty, hallways don't seem to be vacuumed regularly, there are leaves and dirt on the floor. We went to the lounge for dinner and the carpet was absolutely disgusting, full or stains and some dog fur, there was some old lettuce stuck on the side of the dining table, and lipstick on the champagne glasses they brought us Booked a spa for my partner, asked them if they could give them a glass of prosseco on their arrival, which they didn’t do. Apparently the massage was nice though But the worst really was the paper-thin walls. We could hear all of next door conversation, I was even awoken in the middle of the night by their loud soring! Breakfast food was good, but very few choices. We only tried the food at the bar, it was OK. Staff was mix between rude and super nice When we gave some feedback the next day they said sorry we will follow up with an email to offer a discount on your next stay – well, I don’t want to come back, and they of course didn’t send anything, you could tell they really didn’t care So yeah, don’t recommend at all.
